Intellextra, prominent high-end LPO mentioned in Chartered Secretary journalIn an article in the latest issue (June 2006) of the Chartered Secretary, the official journal of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Intellextra has been mentioned as a prominent LPO player in Delhi (NCR) region. The article has been penned by Mr. Pankaj Parnami, CEO of Acclivant Outsourcing Services Pvt Ltd. He himself is quite known in LPO industry in India. This is indicative of increasing notice that professionals have now begun to take of Intellextra Outsourcing Solutions Limited. In last two years, the company has progressed a lot and has provided services to India, UK, US, Turkey and Australia. The most noticeable thing is that Intellextra is in the high-end of the spectrum of services usually provided by LPOs. Most LPOs have confined themselves to low end services like transcription, back office work, data entry etc. There are very few high-end LPOs and Intellextra has been able to carve a niche of its own. In legal drafting, legal research, opinion / brief / memo preparation etc, Intellextra has already reached the prime position. A pdf version of the entire article is available on request. Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO): Growing by leaps and boundsLPO services have been around in India for sometime and the business is flourishing as the time passes. Surveys, revealing the fact, also explore the reasons for the growing popularity. With only about 2-3 per cent ($60-80 million) of the $178 billion US legal services market tapped so far, the Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) industry sees a huge opportunity for legal process outsourcing (LPO), say experts. According to a Forrester Inc report, at least 12,000 legal jobs have been outsourced from the US to offshore locations till 2004. Further, 35,000 US legal jobs will move to low-cost countries such as India by 2010 and 79,000 more by 2015. Third party research indicates that nearly 60-70 per cent of this may come to India That's because like other BPO activities, Indian lawyers come cheap. An associate lawyer in the US comes with a $225 per hour tag in the first year. By the eighth year, it goes up to $450 an hour. In India, the rates are barely 10 per cent to 15 per cent of that. It isn't cost alone. With the time lag between India and the US and the UK, the turnaround time is 24 hours $5 bn is what US firms alone will outsource in litigation support by 2006 $17 bn is what the KPO revenue (of which LPO is a part) will grow to by 2010 $300 mn is the revenue para-legal services will generate by 2010 The cost advantage is what is pulling business into India. According to Forrester, while fresh law graduates in the US demand between $250,000 and $300,000 a year, Indian law graduates are available for $6,000 to $15,000 a year only. While a company hiring a law firm in the US would have to pay around $400 an hour, similar work is done in India for around $200 an hour and could even be as little as $75 an hour, depending on the complexity of the work involved. However, cost alone will not be a factor to attract business. The legal services industry, it says, is inherently indisposed to risk and the general counsel and in-house lawyers feel more comfortable outsourcing work to US law firms. Indian firms question this assumption as they offer faster turnaround time and better quality of work. As more clients look at managing legal spend, the LPO trend will catch up more.
